D-46 Healthful Food and Beverage Options for School Functions
To promote student, staff and community wellness, healthful food options are required at snack time, and if desired at lunchtime. An alternate list for holiday parties will be provided via the school food service. Those items may only be bought for holiday parties. Examples, of nutritious food and beverages that are consistent with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans are listed below. *Please ensure that all food items are free of all peanuts, all nut products, and all nut oils due to allergy concerns. Please make sure to read the LABEL at all times.
Applesauce Raw vegetable sticks/slices
Fresh fruit wedges-cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon, pineapple, oranges, tangelos, etc.
Sliced fruit- nectarines, peaches, kiwi, star fruit, plums, pears, mangos, apples, etc.
This list is the only snacks approved at this time. Items on this list may vary in sugar, fat, and calorie content from brand to brand. However, all items listed are believed to be consistent with the intent of the wellness policy to promote student health and reduce childhood obesity.
